Open champ Cameron Smith leads by one after the opening round of LIV London
Open champ Cameron Smith got 7 birdies in his last 10 holes to publish an eight-under 63 and make a one-shot lead after the first day of LIV London.
Marc Leishman beings in 2nd after an opening 64 as he likewise made hay on the closing holes at Centurion Golf Club, birdieing 5 of the last 6 holes – albeit his round began at the 12th in the shotgun start format.
Smith and Leishman bet Ripper, which led the group scoring after one day.
Thomas Pieters remains in 3rd after an opening 66, while Talor Gooch – who leads the LIV Golf points list – remains in a grouping of gamers who shot 67.
PGA champ Brooks Koepka began and completed his round with a bogey as he published a 72, leaving him in a tie for 33rd.
Koepka today criticised his Smash team-mate Matthew Wolff, implicating him of stopping on rounds and squandering his skill. Wolff had just 2 birdies in his round of 73 and was connected for 38th in the 48-man field.
London is where the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league started in 2015, just in 2022 the competition was played a week prior to the United States Open.
For Smith, this is the last competition he will play prior to protecting his title at The 151st Open at Royal Liverpool from July 20 – survive on Sky Sports
