If awards were provided for blown leads, the Edmonton Oilers would be one video game far from advancing in the NHL playoffs.
However rather, the Los Angeles Kings lead their first-round series 2 video games to one as an outcome of an overtime objective that left the Oilers annoyed in more methods than one.
Trevor Moore netted the winner on a play that saw Gabriel Villardi almost play the puck with a high stick in the offending zone, a play, per Guideline 80, that would’ve required a blockage as the puck was confined by the Kings. While Oilers star Connor McDavid instantly punctuated to gesture for a high-stick, the NHL’s scenario space stated there was no definitive video proof that figured out the puck touched Villardi’s stick.
” It’s a play where the best gamer worldwide (Connor McDavid) is 2 feet away as it occurs, and his arm comes directly in the air,” Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft informed press reporters “He understands that it struck the stick. Otherwise, he would not put his arm up in the air. He ‘d keep playing. It appears to me in the video that the puck’s going directly up in a trajectory and weakens.
” In the end, I’m going to opt for the best gamer worldwide who’s 3 feet away.”

McDavid elaborated after the video game.
” I saw simply in the corner … the puck kinda increases and it goes off his stick, so I called high stick, that’s what I saw on the ice and after that undoubtedly they go on and rating,” McDavid informed press reporters.
However the NHL didn’t see it that method, and with it came a 3-2 win in Video game 3 for the Kings, who removed a 2-1 Edmonton lead in the 2nd duration. The Oilers blew two-goal leads in the previous 2 video games, though they won Video game 2.
” To be totally sincere with you, I had no hint what they were looking for,” Kings center Anze Kopitar stated “Certainly, I saw the objective which was definitely not had fun with a high stick. I didn’t understand. I think in my mind the longer it took– normally the longer it takes, it’s undetermined and the call on the ice was an objective.”
Los Angeles hosts the Oilers in Video Game 4 on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET (TBS).
